Esquire Publishes Article on Roger Ebert
Friday, February 19th, 2010Esquire Magazine recently featured an incredible article about Roger Ebert, one of the truly great movie critics. The article paints a portrait of Ebert’s life, and specifically, how Ebert’s battle with cancer left him without a lower jaw—without the ability to speak, eat, and drink. Yet Ebert continues to review movies, writes an online journal, and counts himself as an incredibly happy man. From the article:
We have a habit of turning sentimental about celebrities who are struck down — Muhammad Ali, Christopher Reeve — transforming them into mystics; still, it’s almost impossible to sit beside Roger Ebert, lifting blue Post-it notes from his silk fingertips, and not feel as though he’s become something more than he was. He has those hands. And his wide and expressive eyes, despite everything, are almost always smiling.
